Psalm 98

Psalm 98

A psalm.

¹Sing to the Lord^(A) a new song,^(B)
    for he has done marvelous things;^(C)
his right hand^(D) and his holy arm^(E)
    have worked salvation^(F) for him.
²The Lord has made his salvation known^(G)
    and revealed his righteousness^(H) to the nations.^(I)
³He has remembered^(J) his love
    and his faithfulness to Israel;
all the ends of the earth^(K) have seen
    the salvation of our God.^(L)

⁴Shout for joy^(M) to the Lord, all the earth,
    burst into jubilant song with music;
⁵make music to the Lord with the harp,^(N)
    with the harp and the sound of singing,^(O)
⁶with trumpets^(P) and the blast of the ram’s horn^(Q)—
    shout for joy^(R) before the Lord, the King.^(S)

⁷Let the sea^(T) resound, and everything in it,
    the world, and all who live in it.^(U)
⁸Let the rivers clap their hands,^(V)
    let the mountains^(W) sing together for joy;
⁹let them sing before the Lord,
    for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
    and the peoples with equity.^(X)

Acts 10:44-48

New International Version

⁴⁴While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on^(A) all who heard the message. ⁴⁵The circumcised believers who had come with Peter^(B) were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out^(C) even on Gentiles.^(D) ⁴⁶For they heard them speaking in tongues^[a]^(E) and praising God.

Then Peter said, ⁴⁷“Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water.^(F) They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”^(G) ⁴⁸So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.^(H) Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

Faith in the Incarnate Son of God

5 Everyone who believes^(A) that Jesus is the Christ^(B) is born of God,^(C) and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.^(D) ²This is how we know^(E) that we love the children of God:^(F) by loving God and carrying out his commands. ³In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands.^(G) And his commands are not burdensome,^(H) ⁴for everyone born of God^(I) overcomes^(J) the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. ⁵Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.^(K)

⁶This is the one who came by water and blood^(L)—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.^(M)

Now remain in my love. ¹⁰If you keep my commands,^(B) you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. ¹¹I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.^(C) ¹²My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.^(D) ¹³Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.^(E) ¹⁴You are my friends^(F) if you do what I command.^(G) ¹⁵I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.^(H) ¹⁶You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you^(I) so that you might go and bear fruit^(J)—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.^(K) ¹⁷This is my command: Love each other.^(L)
